Cop Shows Why It’s Difficult To Confuse A Taser With A Gun

CNN

With the issue on black lives and Asian hate, the cops in the US are certainly under a microscope at this point. As they say, with great power comes great responsibility. There are those that abuse that power and take advantage of the strength they have over the rest of the world.

The police force, the men behind the blue line, has needed a reexamination. While there are definitely a lot of good guys out there who are committed to justice, there are also those who need to look into themselves and see if they’re actually mean for law enforcement.

News has exploded on the high-profile killings committed by cops. A young black man named Daunte Wright was accidentally killed when the police officer confused the taser gun with his real gun. This piece of news has been met with rage from the folks who know about it. The good cops have also taken such a beating simply because of the one bad seed that’s in the bunch.

If you’ve been unaware of the recent events that have hot social media and the news, a video of the much talked about incident was circulated to the public. In it, you’ll see the officer shouting out, “Taser, Taser, Taser” before shooting. It was only after that she realized that she had used a handgun instead. The officer in the video has been named as Kim Potter. She was with the Brooklyn Center Police for 26 years. After the incident, she resigned and then she was charged with second-degree manslaughter.

In order to prove that there are still a lot of good guys out there, a police officer has shared a video for the world to see. In it, he points out the fact that in at least some fatal police encounters, simple common sense will be able to avoid unnecessarily killings.

The video was shared to TikTok by user @brianb1504. In it, the cop talks about the differences between a pistol and a taser. This is obviously a response to the recent slaying of the 20-year-old young man. In the said video, Officer Brian shows his audience how he loads his belt with the firearm and less-lethal weapon. He also pointed out how his pistol is “dominant” while the bright yellow plastic taser is not so dominant.

Officer Brian explains, “Huge weight difference, guys – I don’t understand how we can mistake a taser for a gun or a gun for a taser. If you’re in the heat of the moment and you do something like that, you shouldn’t be doing this job.”

Brian continues to explain how cops have been trained to know the difference and that he’s actually sick and tired of the extremely bad and sad state of police-community relations. People are extremely wary of the men in blue now and simply because this is a result of the wrongful actions committed by killer cops.

Brian further explains, “I’m not going to put my life on the line to try and fix your stupidity and deal with restoring the peace with my public that I serve just because of your stupid actions.”

“It makes no sense. 99 percent of our job is communication. You don’t have to be quick to pull out a gun or a taser on somebody and think everybody’s a threat. Not everybody’s a threat. Try talking to them, get to know these people,” he continues.

While Brian’s account is no longer available right now, it garnered north of 6 million views, over 1.5 million likes, and thousands of comments across the platform.

The video comes in a timely fashion as the country that prides itself of democracy and as the home of the free braces itself for more protests. The killing of Daunte Wright by Kim Potter has been the talk and from the looks of it, it won’t die down in the next few months. This is just one of the many incidents that has angered the citizens.

Police Chief Tim Gannon claims that Potter was simply trying to tase Wright. However, he passed away as a result of an accidental discharge. A mistake that won’t go by easily with the people. And as mentioned previously, Potter has since been charged with second-degree manslaughter. If she is found guilty and is convicted, she could face up to 10 years behind bars and perhaps a $20,000 fine to go with it.
