They say that honesty is the best policy, and for this case, it’s also the most rewarding. The trait has become such a rarity nowadays. We now live in a world where every single one is out for no one but himself. But who can blame them? In a world where no one cares, they’re simply trying to survive.

Then, there are still the exceptional ones where the don’t think of themselves. They’re still concerned about the good of others. It’s even rarer to find this trait in a young person. Stories like these should inspire the rest to follow suit and show others just as much love.

A young man, just 17years of age, from San Diego found a purse that was accidentally left in a grocery store parking lot and immediately returned it to its rightful owner. The best part is that he did it just out of goodwill and kindness. He didn’t expect anything in return because he assumed what he was doing was right. But because hundreds of strangers saw this kind gesture, they gave him a big reward in return.

Adrian Rodriquez found a green handbag in the parking lot of Ralph’s in Chula Vista, California. This had happened recently. Whereas others would immediately stake claim of its contents, he chose to deliver it to the owner by heading over to the woman’s home.

A woman named Eliana Martin was the owner and at that time, she wasn’t home. So, Adrian thought to leave it with the roommates. The whole incident was caught by the home’s surveillance camera and this was later used so that they could find the young high school graduate. Their goal was to show him the gratitude he deserved.

“I looked into the Ring camera, and I was like, ‘Oh my God. He’s such a young kid’,” said Melina Marquez when she looked back on the day it happened. “We need to find him and just give him a little piece of gratitude,” she added

She and Martin decided to post a portion of the video image on social media. They wanted to find out who the young man was. He returned a bag that $20 in cash and a wallet that was filled with important credit cards.

“My mom always told me since I was little to always do the right thing when nobody’s around,” Adrian told NBC News. “I didn’t expect nothing back, honestly.”

“If someone found my stuff, I’d want them to bring it back to me,” said Adrian, remaining humble about the entire thing.

But of course, there’s more to the story because it doesn’t just end with a thank you. Marquez organized a GoFundMe campaign as a form of gratitude. His new friends and admirers wanted to reward Adrian for his honesty. Beccause of this, a total of 764 donors sent money. The collection reached more than $17,000.

“This is something that we really need. It’s good news, positive news,” said Marquez after she looked at the video with fondness.

“Every parent right now hopes that their children grow up to be just like this young gentleman,” Marquez said.
