New Yorkers Alarmed By The Nightmarish Siren From The Red-Lit Empire State Building

True Actrivist

Certainly many New Yorkers got the shock of their life as they were not prepared and informed about the meaning of the siren from the Empire State Building. Plus the eerie-looking, hell-like, glaring red lights on the top floors of the building. People in New York are already stressed and frightened as the state has the most cases of Coronavirus in the US at over 93,000, and the number of deaths rapidly increasing to over 2,500. But it was meant to be a gesture of gratitude towards the first responders and healthcare workers.  Fortunately, the building’s management came out with an announcement on Twitter:

“Starting tonight through the COVID-19 battle, our signature white lights will be replaced by the heartbeat of America with a white and red siren in the mast for heroic emergency workers on the front line of the fight”

The frontliners truly deserve to be honored, they put themselves at risk to help others. Nothing is more galant and heroic. Several of them have perished trying to save other lives. It is a time for solidarity in the Big Apple, and New Yorkers have to band together to fight the deadly virus. But the sight of the blood-red skyscraper surely took many by surprise, like an ominous beacon of doom. Many residents voiced their initial shock at the siren and lights, but eventually found some humor in it after they realized what it was for. The internet was full of reactions, some comparing the Empire State Building to the realm of Mordor, in the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

The city that never sleeps is hard-hit by Coronavirus, and Governor Andrew Cuomo is doing everything he can to help contain the virus and stop it from spreading. New Yorkers should heed the call to stay home and only leave their homes for emergencies like food, money, or medical supplies. Even while the Empire State Building siren and red lights gave many a shock, it surely made them realize the value of the first responders and health workers. They are truly heroic, we wish them all the best.
